Sweet and Spicy Mochi

This delicious snack is sticky and sweet with a kick of heat! It’s a great a way to enjoy mochi.

On the Ingredients

  • Mochi is a dough made from pounded plain rice. The type of rice used is mochigome, a short-grain japonica glutinous rice. Glutinous here doesn’t mean it has gluten; the term refers to its glue-like qualities. These types of rice are very sticky and a little sweeter than other varieties. When you take mochigome and pound it until it is completely broken down into a paste, you get a very sticky, springy, almost gelatinous dough. That is mochi.
