Homemade Candy Crunch Bars

Craving Halloween candy? Skip the additives and make your own simple candy crunch bars with only three ingredients. Smooth and silky chocolate with crunchy nuts make for a deliciously satisfying snack. You can use any chocolate chips, including Lily’s Sweets sugar-free or Hu’s no processed sugar

On the Ingredients:

  • Dark Chocolate has all kinds of proven health benefits dark chocolate. For instance, did you know that chocolate is actually very nutritious? A 100-gram bar of dark chocolate with 70–85% cocoa contains something like 11 grams of fiber, 67% of the RDI for iron, 58% of the RDI for magnesium, 89% of the RDI for copper, 98% of the RDI for manganese. It also has plenty of potassium, phosphorus, zinc, and selenium. Chocolate is also a powerful antioxidant, filled with organic compounds like polyphenols, flavanols, and catechins. Some studies show chocolate may help improve blood flow and lower blood pressure. There’s also a possibility that it reduces the risk of heart disease. Heck, dark chocolate might even make you smarter because cocoa contains stimulant substances like caffeine and theobromine, which can improve brain function in the short term.
  • Nuts are a good sources of protein, healthy fats, fiber, vitamins and minerals. Some varieties are higher in nutrients than others, and the carb load depends as well, though generally they are safe for a low carb diet. (Read more about the health benefits.)

Recipe Notes and Substitutions:

You can use any nut butter to make this candy. You may also choose to use a single type of nut rather than a mix.

Ingredients

  • 1 9oz bag of chocolate chips

  • 1 cup smooth peanut butter

  • 2 cups mixed roasted and salted nuts ( chopped)

Directions

  • Line an 8x8” baking pan with parchment paper.
  • Set up a double boiler with a heatproof bowl fit on top of a saucepan of boiling water.
  • Combine the chocolate chips and peanut butter in the heatproof bowl. Let the chocolate melt while stirring frequently. The peanut butter and chocolate will combine into a smooth batter.
  • Remove from the heat, add the chopped nuts, and mix to combine.
  • Pour the chocolate mixture into the parchment-lined pan and smooth the top.
  • Put in the freezer until the chocolate sets.
  • Use the parchment to pull the chocolate up and out of the pan.
  • Cut it into 36 rectangles. Store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
