Art Show Policies

Please review the art show policies before applying so you are familiar with the process. All artist are required to sign a contract agreeing to the policies before their art show.

NOTE: All conditions must be met or you will need to reschedule or cancel your show. The Co-op reserves the right to cancel a show at any time if these conditions are not met.

Your “PROXY” must be someone who can meet all requirements of this contract. The Co-op cannot provide additional resources if a proxy is unprepared or is unable to meet all requirements of this contract. Please take this into consideration if you are choosing someone other than yourself to transport your work or to install the show for you.

1. The artist must be present for installation and breakdown of their show.

If you cannot be present for either, you must reschedule your show for the next available month or send a proxy who is entirely familiar with your artwork, its installation requirements, your vision for layout of the show, de-installation and transportation of the work. The co-op will not assume responsibility for any of this activity.

2. The Co-op’s art show coordinator will be there to assist with installation and breakdown. They are not responsible for arranging, hanging, or de-installing the show.

3. Work must be installed and picked up on the required dates.

4. The Co-op cannot store artwork on either end of the show.

5. The Co-op cannot receive and install shipped artwork under any circumstances.

6. If the artist is under the age of 18 and is not able to fulfill all of the requirements, a parent or guardian must accompany the artist for drop off, installation, and breakdown.

7. The Blue Hill Co-op café is a family space and we reserve the right to refuse any artwork that does not align with our community’s values. If your artwork is overtly political, religious, or explicit, it will need to be approved ahead of time by management. Before you begin installation of your show, please consult with the coordinator if your art falls into any of these categories. The Co-op reserves the right to remove any works, at any time, deemed inappropriate for the café space.

8. Artwork for sale requires a detailed price list provided by the artist. The artist can bring price cards to be displayed by each piece or send a price list to the art show coordinator to have some made. All sales are processed at the register and the buyer will remove the piece from the show at the time of purchase. The artist will be notified and may then either leave the spot empty with a SOLD tag or hang another piece. The Co-op will write a check to the artist for the sale price minus a 10% fee for processing and handling.

9. We require artists to wait three years between exhibitions in order to make the space available for a variety of artists.

10. If you cannot hold your show during the scheduled month for any reason, you may reschedule for the next available month. The Co-op will not ask other artists to reschedule based on your dilemma, though you can request to be added to the waiting list in case there is a cancellation for an earlier month.

11. The Co-op may ask artists to postpone their installation by a few days so that we can make repairs to the wall.

12. If the Co-op Café has to be closed unexpectedly for any reason, we will move the exhibition schedule forward, in the same order, as soon as the space reopens. The Co-op will do everything possible to honor commitments for scheduled art shows should this situation arise.

13. The Co-op uses a tension wire hanging system to display artwork. The artist may not use any other means to display artwork that will cause any damage to the wall. Nails, tacks, pins, brads or any other means of creating holes in the wall are strictly prohibited, as are command strips and hooks. Putty is also forbidden.

14. All artwork must be compatible with our hanging system. Framed or other 2D art must have hanging wires on the backs. No alligator or sawtooth hangers. If your artwork medium is not 2D, you must have a meeting with the art show coordinator prior to installation to brainstorm how the art will be displayed using our system.

15. To avoid copyright infringement which could affect compensation or remuneration for original artists, the use of AI generated artwork is forbidden.
