Managed by Anna and Adam Perkins and providing produce and flowers for the community, Triple Chick Farm is MOFGA-certified organic located in Bar Harbor, Maine. The farm is bordered by the confluence of Kitteredge Brook and Babson Creek and consists of seven open acres, with two and a half acres in row crop production. Anna and Adam met in the Peace Corps Nepal in 2015 and moved to MDI to pursue farming together. They started co-managing Triple Chick in the fall of 2021 and, alongside their nine other seasonal employees, they have sustained and grown the Triple Chick’s offerings, expanded the farmstand, and adapted the farm to provide vegetables accessible year-round and flowers spring thru fall.
Anna has a background in farming as a MOFGA apprentice in the Blue Hill area and Adam grew up on a dairy-turned-tree farm in Bradford County, PA. The owners and previous managers of the farm, Amy and Hartley Rogers, purchased it in 2010 and have remained committed to maintaining the property as a working farm and producing the highest quality, sustainably-grown produce without the use of harmful chemicals. As grateful members of the summer community, the Rogers family hopes to promote local commerce and protect the unique character of MDI. Amy and Hartley are parents to three daughters, who grew up on the farm and after whom the farm is named. They’re excited that Triple Chick is now home to two other young “chicks,” Anna and Adam’s daughters. “When we came into Triple Chick, the goal was and remains to be a long-term farm business that sustains our family while being an employer in the community — to offer access to the food we grow. Triple Chick has created a model where Adam and I can sustain a farm business on the island, which is a huge gift they gave us and the community. [Bar Harbor] is a special place to live while getting to know the people here. We’ve met some amazing people who have become our village by helping us care for our children and supporting the business as restaurants, grocery stores and returning customers,” said Anna in a recent interview with The Mount Desert Islander. She continued, “It’s an exciting way to get to know the community through what we do. We love sharing food, being outside and feeling connected to where we live.”
During the summer, Triple Chick operates an onsite farmstand, offering over two dozen types of certified organic fresh vegetables throughout the year, over a dozen types of herbs, a stunning variety of flowers (sold as single stems or bouquets), as well as an annual seedling sale in mid-June. The farmstand also offers an assortment of goods from other local producers, such as Maine Flavor ice cream sandwiches, pints and cookies (including dairy-free and gluten-free options), Balfour Farm cheese and salami, Sweet Monkey granola and shortbread cookies, Blue-Zee Farm frozen wild blueberries, Bill’s Bagels, Sweetfern Farm pies and galettes, Precipice coffee and baked goods, Tortilleria Panchanga tortillas, Brazen Baking breads and crackers, Springtide Farmstead meats, Peggy Rockefeller Farm eggs and meats, Amolitta pasta, and Chai Wallah teas. Additionally, Triple Chick Farm grows and creates bouquets for their farmstand and retail partners, which are a great low-cost option for events, activities and restaurants. The farmstand is open from mid-May until Thanksgiving. In May, their hours are Wed-Friday 10am-4:30pm and Saturday 10-2pm. June hours are Tuesday-Friday 10am-4:30pm and Saturday 10-2pm, and July & August hours are Tuesday-Friday 9am-4:30pm and Saturday 9-2pm. SNAP/EBT is accepted! During the off-season, Triple Chick is involved with the Bar Harbor Winter Farmers’ and Crafters’ Market at the Bar Harbor YWCA, which is a bi-weekly market that hosts local farmers and makers from November to April. The farm also participates in the online community farmer’s market service called Farmdrop, with pick-up options on Wednesdays at Triple Chick Farm. Be sure to order Tuesday-Monday to ensure pickup the following Wednesday. They provide fresh produce and flowers to a number of local restaurants and retail locations, including the Blue Hill Co-op. Currently, we have a delectable assortment of beets, carrots, and slicing cucumbers from Triple Chick Farm in our Produce Department and are always receiving new seasonal selections.
