Meet Jill Miller, owner and founder of The Maine Pie Company in Biddeford, ME.
Jill has decades of baking experience under her apron. She owned The Runcible Spoon in Nyack, New York, with her husband Lou for 11 years, which was a full service bakery specializing in flavorful homemade pies. Focusing on their family, Jill and Lou moved to Kennebunkport, Maine, in 2000. They were eager to get their hands back in the dough and promptly opened a full service bakery in the Lower Village of Kennebunk, featuring the same outstanding pies Jill was famous for in New York.
Over the years, Jill heard more and more customers ask for gluten-free options. She decided to take matters into her own hands and invented a gluten-free crust that was not only moist and flaky, but delectably buttery, too! Filled with an abundance of fresh, locally-sourced fruits and the finest quality ingredients without preservatives or additives, Maine Pie Co’s pies are a delightful treat for everyone and will leave friends and family astounded that something gluten-free could taste so good.
Jill and Lou built their designated gluten-free kitchen in 2014, located in the North Dam Mill in Biddeford, Maine. Here is where they create all their lab certified gluten-free pies and products, including unbaked, frozen, gluten-free pies and tarts. There is such a demand for her delicious products that Jill distributes them from Maine to Maryland. Her accounts now include Whole Foods, Hannafords, and other large retailers, as well as specialty and health food stores, like the Blue Hill Co-op. The Blue Hill Co-op carries a variety of Jill’s classic pies, including 8” Wild Blueberry, Apple, Pecan Pie, Pumpkin Pie, and Cranberry-Nut Pie, as well as 2-packs of 9” frozen pie shells.
