Kohlrabi Fries


If you've never eaten kohlrabi you're really missing out. This versatile vegetable has a great flavor, somewhat reminiscent of broccoli. If you've been wondering what to do with this odd looking vegetable, this recipe is a great place to get started. 


1 lb kohlrabi
1 tablespoon rice flour
Sea salt and black pepper to taste
4 tablespoons olive oil

Peel the kohlrabi and slice into thick fries, around a half inch thick and the length of the vegetable. Toss the fries in the rice flour, salt, and pepper to coat them lightly. 

Heat the oil over a medium high heat in a heavy bottomed skillet. When the pan is hot, add the fries in small batches, cooking one side for around three minutes before flipping them and cooking a further three minutes. You want the outside to be crispy. When they are finished cooking, drain the oil off of them using a paper towel or a brown paper bag. They are best when eaten hot!

If you want a little extra flavor you can sprinkle the kohlrabi fries with curry powder or chili.
