Art in the Café
June Art in the Cafe: Helena M. Bosse
Summertime, and the painting is easy... .at least according to Helena M. Bosse. The Milford artist, whose work is on display at the Blue Hill Co-op Cafe, says "Nothing makes me happier than sitting in front of my easel and painting the beautiful world around me. Maine provides endless inspiration for subjects to paint."
In the summer, Bosse says she loves to paint en plein air around her garden, on Monhegan Island, or downeast in the Eastport region. In the winter, she works from photographs in her studio or at a friend's studio. Bosse's mediums of choice are oil paint and watercolor. Her watercolors are done on yopo, a new synthetic material which makes the colors look more vibrant than when painted on paper.
Helena Bosse's paintings will be on display at the Co-op Cafe for the month of June. The artist may be reached at 207-827-6236, helena@helenambosse.com, or www.helenambosse.com.
For more information about Art in the Cafe, contact: Mary Barnes, 359-5053. The Co-op is open this summer from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

Summer 2010 Farm Tours!
“Sowing Seeds” Farm Tours Sprout Up On Peninsula as The Co-op continues its “Sowing Seeds” summer farm tour series.
The next stop is at Old Ackley Farm in North Blue Hill on Saturday, June 19 from 2-4 p.m.
In 2001, Bob Sullivan arrived from Maryland with nothing but desire and extreme motivation to create a small, diversified family farm. He found a 137-acre former dairy farm located in North Blue Hill and immediately established Old Ackley Farm. In only 6 years, learning along the way, Bob has brought Old Ackley up to a yearly production of 2,300 chickens, 26 pigs, 10 beef cattle, 75 turkeys, milk, and eggs almost year-round.
Two years ago, Bob partnered with Colleen Prentiss, a self-taught organic gardener and landscaper. Together, they have expanded the farm’s product line and customer base. They have also fulfilled their goal of having a family farm with the birth of their son Charlie in 2009.
Old Ackley Farm is registered with the Blue Hill Heritage Trust, which means the land will always remain available for farming.
The farm is located off of Rt. 15 at 42 Ackley Farm Road. The tour of Old Ackley Farm begins at 2 p.m. Saturday and will take place rain or shine. Children of all ages are welcome to attend. All the Blue Hill Co-op farm tours are free and open to the public. Pre-registration is recommended. For more information or to reserve a spot for Saturday’s tour, please contact Mia Strong at 359-8572.
